Tell us a little about yourself
Hi all, I’m Anika and 24. I work as a Sales and Marketing Manager at Freedom Forklifts on the sunny Gold Coast. Married to a wonderful man who has also been my biggest support throughout this journey. I’m an aunty to 6 wonderful nephews and 2 beautiful nieces. Originally from Bundaberg (born and raised) this is where my family still lives. I was an early bloomer and starting my period when I was 10. At the age of 12 the doctors placed me contraception as my periods were irregular, heavy and extremely painful. As I got older they become worse. At 17 I was diagnosed with Endometriosis, which the doctors where not willing to help and kept changing my contraception. 3 years ago went a check-up where they found that my left ovary was 3 times the size it was and also diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome – and yet still no help from specialist and doctors. And to top it all off, I was struggling to lose weight. I have been powerlifting / training for 4 years and the only managed to continue to grow in muscle mass and not lose fat. I use to play union and hockey until I had broken my ankle and wrist (twice in the same spot).
What is something that was holding you back or causing you issues?
I took this journey because I was at wits end and I had nothing to lose. I was eating anywhere between 800-1200 calories a day (depending on how I was feeling), hated food as I was eating eggs, chicken rice and vegs – YUCK! Menstrual cycles where still over the place – I would go months with out anything and then solid months with them. Always tired and lacked energy. Sex life was shit house, and I felt horrible and ashamed in my own skins, constantly comparing myself and thinking my husband is ashamed to have me as a wife. Extremely low temps and pulse, with every night being woken up from nightmares.
What did you change or implement to overcome this/these issues?
Working with Kitty to overcome a lot from menstrual cycles to loving food. The first big challenge learning to love food and know that is medicine. Going form 800-1200 calories to now eating 2200 – 2300 calories a day and enjoying the food has changed me a lot. Reading the information that Kitty has supplied throughout the 12 weeks and even now helps build a better understanding on how foods and body work with each other. Training hard with Craig’s help and smashing out some awesome numbers and really looking forward to competing again. I have also had a lot of help from Nat Hodges with assisting my mind set and how to overcome self-doubt.
What was the result?
EVERYTHING! Sex life is amazing! Strength is amazing and muscle mass is growing. Love eating food and now have everything set everyday where is just becomes part of everyday – eating every 2-2.5 hours. Sleeping through the night with no nightmares. Amazing temp always sitting between 36-37 and pulse of 90bpm. The biggest change for me personally is that for the first time in 14 years – this month I have my menstrual cycle with no pain, no vomiting and well normal. The last 3 months it becomes regular but still painful. And now not having any pain is amazing. I’m booked in to see what the result is with my ovaries – PSOS and Endometriosis. The hard work does ever stops and I have an amazing support around me. This journey has bought Beau and I closer, have made many friends and mostly seen a massive change in myself.
